Nandos have teamed up with Monorex to give young people a chance to try their hands at some of the more contemporary artforms.
These include: T-shirt printing, Pen drawing battles, Prop design and Spray painting.

These masterclasses will be headed up by Jimi Crayon, Mr K, Stika, Jamie Brown, Jiggery Pokery and Hit + Run and promise to be as fun as they are insightful.

Jimi Crayon says:
“We want to give people a chance to have a go at something they might not have tried before and see if we can get them hooked on a new skill”

There will be music, a freestyle art room for anyone to turn up and draw and of course some free chicken.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWMfd3elfMY

Trying something new is what Nando’s xPERimental Sketch is all about! After the massive success of the Skate Jam design-a-deck comp last year, we realised there are a loads of budding artists out there looking to get their first taste of live art – which is exactly why we’ve created Sketch. This event will bring together top street artists from the UK and South Africa to help young people learn all about street art and improve their artistic skills.

With help from our friends at street art collective Monorex we’ll be hosting a day of Sketch sessions and workshops so you can get involved in creating your very own masterpiece. There will be a host of talented artists to watch and learn from, including South African based artists Rasty Knayles & Kutzanai Chiruai and of course, Nando’s will be there serving up enough PERi-PERi to fuel your creativity throughout the day.

The Nando’s xPERimental Sketch event will be happening on the 22nd May 2011 between 9:30am-6:00pm at the Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, London, SE1.

READ ME:

Step over your fantasy threshold and into a new realm of audio visual delights with The Tronicles of Narnia this Christmas.

On Saturday 18 December, from 10pm to 6am, Cardboardboss Collective presents The Tronicles of Narnia – an epic night of stupendous sensory overload in East London’s latest warehouse event space.

The night will take the iconic sci-fi aesthetic of the original 1980s Tron, and particle-smash it together with the sprawlingly imaginative world of the Narnia fantasy stories. The results are as yet unknown, but they will be spectacular.

Masterminded to coincide with the release dates of two of 2010’s most highly anticipated movie re-makes, Walt Disney’s ‘TRON:Legacy’ and 20th Century Fox’s ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ – ToN has been tipped as one of the most unusual and exciting events to hit London this year.

Fancy dress demands fur coats, Tron helmets, fawn legs and electro neon grid get-up. East London’s newest warehouse space will transform into a pixel-based Narnia war zone. Prepare for Christmas tree forests, fields of lasers, snow machines, infinite grids, witches, lightbikes, fawns and abundant glistening piles of turkish delight.

The Snow Queen will play host, alongside DJs JFB, Si Begg, Taz Buckfaster and Touchy Subject, all performing to a backdrop of eye-blistering and mind blending Tron/Narnia visuals from the Cardboardboss Collective VJs and artists.

The event’s secret location will be revealed a fortnight before the wardrobe doors open: The lion, the glitch and the war-strobes await you.

Don’t miss your opportunity to get wonky with Aslan at the meltdown of the year! Order tickets now to avoid disappointment, for when Aslan boards his lightbike, we only dare speculate as to the results…

ToN is a Christmassy mega mash up VJ/DJ/Live performance interactive show.
Taking place slap-bang in the middle of the two film’s release dates this December, it is NOT TO BE MISSED. Make sure you can say you were there…

*****************************************************************

EXPECT:
Mr Tumnus on the tiles, a glitch-filled wardrobe, Tron grids, the full cast of the original BBC Narnia series, wire grid lions, laser eye scans, never ending neon drinks, free lions paws, laser ear surgery, blue lagoons, electric safety helmets, unknown hero DJ winners, ETM machines on fire, fair trade zion ice cream, an argument between tron and aslan and a very faulty selection of songs.

*****************************************************************

QUOTES:

‘Over a year in the making and at long last, Aslan has landed a job at the national grid’
— Aslan fan.

Cerbyd is a new initiative networking artists’ groups in Wales. Emilia Telese interviews Tom Goddard of Cerbyd to find out more..

ET : How was Cerbyd born?
TG: The inspiration for Cerbyd came firstly from our involvement in Garej Art space between June 2007 – August 2008. After exhibiting 120 artists in rolling three week shows over a fifteen month programme, I became most interested in the dialogues created between artist and viewer, particularly from works in progress and their ongoing creative processes. They can suggest multiple ideas and perspectives; like sounding boards that will still be influenced by other voices, unlike the more finite but elusive ‘finished’ piece. Initially we faced disappointment when we discovered we hadn’t secured the funding to continue Garej, but this eventually led me to question the need for a physical space to create and exhibit art.

ET: And how did it go on from there?
TG: While I worked as an AIR member on Cywaith Cymru projects in St.Asaph & Holyhead, I felt wholly disconnected and isolated from other artists across Wales – organisations and networks were fragmented or absent. That was four years ago, when I wanted to develop creative connections across Wales. Now I hope Cerbyd will contribute and benefit those existing networks, as well as introduce a unique and refreshing approach to cross-Wales collaboration.

ET: Why “Cerbyd?”
TG: I decided that Cerbyd, the Welsh word for vehicle, could become an apt metaphor for the rise of art and its communities across Wales; a gallery without walls, which is accessible to all and has endless possibilities. Instead of meeting artists online in forums or networking sites, people will enjoy more interactive face-to-face encounters, as well as a stronger and more durable collaborative experience.

ET: What are the aims of the initiative?
TG: Historically artists have worked together for years, from the Kardomah Gang to the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. In Cerbyd and my own artistic practice, I’m also aiming to achieve this – but given the numerous factors within Cerbyd that I can’t control, the collaborative process will be that much more exciting and liberating. During one of our activities, ten selected artists will sleep, eat, travel and talk throughout an 8 day bus journey and respond to rich and varied experiences with places, communities, their groups and unique activities. At each stop the artists will take part in an activity provided by a local group, for example, bee-keeping or appalachian dancing. The artists will then respond to this through their practice which will go towards a touring exhibition and publication.

ET: What are your long-term goals?
TG: Cerbyd offers the opportunity for artists to make connections of a long lasting, deep and relevant nature. Its long term aim is to link artists across Wales through travel, activity, collaborations and dialogue. We will provide a creative map of Wales, making it easier to identify numerous important communities and artist groups. It will also benefit those wishing to work in Wales, by bringing contemporary art practice and new audiences into rural areas.

Cerbyd will be on the road from August 2nd-10th 2010. We fully intend for Cerbyd to continue as a vehicle for Wales based artists to travel and experience various communities, explore dialogues and make connections across the world in the future.
